How to embed images on your blog
Based on the response to this post, I am going to give step by step directions for how to place images from Photrade within your own blog posts and pages. For those of you unfamiliar with Photrade, they provide a legal way for you place copyrighted imagery on your posts for free.
- Find an image that meets your needs. I strongly suggest you start with my portfolio. Yes, I am biased toward my own work. If you don’t see something there, then use the Search function to widen the choices (or contact me).
- After selecting an image you will be at the singlePhoto page (for example), of the image. Now you click on the share button
. - Next select the Blog tab and choose the options for how you want the image to appear.
- The first choice is image size. The options are Small (290px × 226px), Medium (455px × 344px), and Large (606px × 452px). The pixel sizes may depend on the choice made in the next step. Let me know in the comments if you notice this.
- The next choice is the border type. The options are No border, Polaroid frame, and Museum frame. Examples are shown below, but keep in mind that the Museum frame allows very precise choices for the outer and inner borders so you can match your own color themes anyway you like.
- After making your choices or accepting the defaults, you click the Get Content button.
- Next select and copy the generated content (html and javascript code) inside the text area adjacent to the Get Content button.
- Now for the tricky part. You will need to paste the content within your post when you are in the HTML edit mode of your blogging software. Once pasted into the html of your post, do not alter this content. My hope is that Photrade will soon create a plugin or easier way for bloggers to do this step.
That’s it. Just save/publish your post and the images will be included. Below are three examples of different ways to configure the images. I hope this is helpful to you. Feel free to provide me feedback in the comments if you found anything unclear or have suggestions of how to improve this guide.
